Comme des Garçons is a Japanese fashion label founded in 1969 by Rei Kawakubo. Based jointly in Tokyo and Paris, Comme des Garçons has been at the forefront of avant-garde fashion for over four decades. The brand has spawned innumerable sub-labels, and launched the careers of designers including Junya Watanabe, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Chitose Abe of Sacai and Junichi Abe of Kolor. The brand's collaborations have included everyone from H&M to Hermès, Nike to Supreme. Kawakubo's deconstructionist approach is informed more by fine art and abstract thought than clothing tradition, resulting in highly unorthodox, original and groundbreaking collections. CDG is known for its Dover Street Market retail concept - a department store for fashion, originally located on London's Dover Street in Mayfair. The concept has since been expanded to two further locations in Tokyo and New York. The CDG PLAY line was established in the late nineties, using a bug-eyed heart designed by New York Graphic artist Filip Pagowski as its logo. Primarily using sportswear staples such as T-shirts, sweaters and hoodies, CDG PLAY riffs on New York skate culture and Harajuku street style to produce a unisex collection of sophisticated, highly wearable essentials. A key component of the collection is the brand's collaboration with Converse, applying the heart logo to classic styles including the Chuck Taylor and Pro Leather.
